Open your windows on a still evening and you can hear insects ticking against the glass. That sound is what sends you looking for an anti insect screen.

Before ordering one, it helps to know what you are buying. The mesh has to survive a year of sun and rain, and several things shape the price you are quoted.

Why Install a Mosquito Screen HDB?

The obvious reason is comfort. Open windows bring cross ventilation and cooler rooms, but they also invite mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and lizards. A screen keeps the airflow and keeps them out.

The less obvious reason is health. Singapore has recurring dengue clusters, and NEA’s guidance on preventing mosquito breeding treats physical barriers as part of the defence at home.

How Magnetic Insect Screens Work

A magnetic screen is built around a light frame that sits over your window opening. Permanent magnets run along its edges, paired with high-bond adhesive tape on the window side. The panel snaps into place and holds a sealed line all the way round. No drilling is required in most homes.

The mesh comes in two grades. Fibreglass is the standard insect option, thin and best kept away from anything sharp. Heavy-duty polyester is thicker and stands up to scratches. Wind clips add security against strong wind.

The magnetic type is the easiest screen to lift off for washing, for cleaning the glass, or for access to the windows during a downpour.

Retractable screens roll and stow away, sliding screens run on a track, and swing screens open like a casement window in 316 Stainless Steel. Door mesh comes in sliding and retractable, with a 2-in-1 Blinds+Mesh version of the retractable. The insect mesh on a sliding door comes in a magnetic screen format.

What Affects Magnetic Insect Screen Price?

There is no flat rate. The price is calculated per square foot and fully customised, with a minimum price per mesh, plus 9% GST.

At Mozziefy, magnetic is the entry-level option. Final pricing varies based on the size of the opening, window configuration, selected screen type and any special installation requirements. Measurement and installation are both included in the quoted price rather than billed separately. Payment is a 50% deposit to confirm and the balance on completion, by PayNow, PayLah or bank transfer.

Window Size, System Type and Mesh Material

These three decide almost everything about fit and cost.

Window Size

  • Each screen is customised to the size and configuration of your windows.
  • The bigger the window, the more costly it will be.
  • Special requirements or additional work will add to the cost.

System Type

  • More complicated mesh systems cost more than a simple magnetic insect screen.
  • Insect screens that come in aluminium sliding tracks, framed casement or roller systems tend to be more expensive.

Mesh Material

  • Premium and pet-friendly meshes are made of a special material that resists scratches and blunt force, so they cost more than fibreglass mesh.
  • Stainless steel mesh generally comes in 304 or 316 grade. Mozziefy uses 316 Stainless Steel, the higher grade, which costs more.

Not all systems and mesh types are built for pets, but pet-safe screens can double up as insect  protection. If you have a pet at home, look beyond the price and consider the pet-friendly range, which is built for pets.

Professional Screen Supplier vs DIY Screens

DIY screens cost less than custom-made meshes, but you have to measure and fit them yourself. If they are measured or installed wrongly, gaps can let insects through, or the existing windows can be damaged.

Screens from a professional supplier are purpose-designed and sourced for Singapore homes, so the quality and fit are better. Consultation, on-site measurement, installation and warranty are included, so the whole process is taken care of.

Cleaning, Maintenance and Warranty

When choosing insect screens, consider how easy the mesh is to clean and maintain in the long run.

Most screens can be cleaned with a simple wipe using a damp microfibre cloth or a vacuum with a soft brush. Some screens are fully detachable for cleaning with water.

Every mesh type needs regular cleaning, as dust builds up on the mesh. Regular upkeep helps the screen last longer.

Professional screen suppliers usually offer a warranty covering installation, manufacturing and mechanism defects.

Before you commit, check how long the warranty runs and what it excludes.
